We started as a cross-platform music aggregation service in 2017, bringing content from a dozen platforms into a single app. Despite offering all the premium platforms, users were overwhelmingly drawn to our free internet radio content. We quickly learned that the price of music streaming services was inaccessible to a large group of people.
We asked ourselves, "Instead of just offering free music, is it possible to solve the root problem and provide people with easy ways to earn more income?", and we've been on that journey ever since.
As Current grew throughout 2020, we noticed that some users were unable to earn to their full potential due to their old phones lacking the necessary storage, connectivity, and OS version. To help solve that, we built and released Mode Phone; the first smartphone that pays for itself. With Mode, we're able to offer a high-end smartphone to anyone heavily subsidized by the Earning OS powered by Current.
Dan (CEO) met Kiran (CTO) in 2011 on Fiverr, where Kiran was searching for his first freelance gig.
